Batch: 1
Tasting Notes:
While mixing the powder, it presented as a milk chocolate brown, closer to a dark chocolate. In the past this has indicated a heavier kava. The process we used was 32 grams of puariki kava powder to 20oz or 600ml of water in a blender. Blend for 4 minutes on medium high and strain well using a reusable metal coffee filter, then pushed.
On tasting there is very little pepper taste. Slight earthyness. This kava is extremely smooth aside from the earthyness. It goes down very easy.
There was a delayed effect for us. Once it kicked in, it kicked in in stages. First there was a lot of relaxaction and slight euphoria. The next stage was a huge kick in of euphoria and a heavy body relaxation. A slight numbness in the body and face as well.
These effects lasted about 3 and a half hours after they kicked in. So this was a solid part of our day.

About this Kava:
We are one of the first companies to import Puariki into the United States for commercial sale. This kava is very rare outside of Vanuatu. In Vanuatu however, it is extremely popular. Unfortunately, Cyclone Pam destroyed most of the kava crop on Tongoa in 2015. Replanting took time but was done very well by local families. Luckily, the Puariki pups were sold and recorded in a database for future use. Correctly identifying kava or trying to locate kava can be very difficult. The foresight to make record of who is growing it and where, in our opinion is where the kava industry is headed through the entirety of the south pacific. The days of selling a random kava without knowing anything about it is slowly but surely headed out the door. This process is how that begins.
We sourced this 100% Noble lateral and basal root mix (70%/30%) kava from the island of Tongoa in Vanuatu. This high quality, single cultivar, noble Kava is selected from the Puariki variety that have been grown on the island of Tongoa.
Puariki has been purposefully cultivated for centuries to both concentrate the kavain and increasing the desirable effects.
Noble Lateral Root Kava powder, is derived from the smaller roots that extend from the main root-stock. These roots are higher in Kavalactones.
The basil root or stump is the root ball base of the kava plant peeled and cut into chips before pounding. This typically has a different chemotype than the lateral roots, is milder in kavalactons and more creamy in texture.
Batch 1 CHEMOTYPE: 246531
Batch 1 TOTAL KAVALACTONE: 9.4%
About the Farmer:
We now have an agent in Vanuatu who also acts as a middleman. We use this agent to source new and exciting kava cultivars not readily available. He has collected a database of people who are growing Puariki on small lots in Tongoa. This means that our kava is carefully collected on small family plots. It's brought to a central location in Tongoa green, then selected for quality. The selection process removes kava that is harvested too young, kava that has any root rot etc. If kava is improperly harvested young, training is provided so all the products that are harvested can be sold immediately.
Middlemen Are vital to the supply chain in all of the South Pacific Islands. Many times the best quality kava comes from a community deep in the jungle or on an island that takes 12 hours to get to. These middlemen create relationships with these farmers. The farming communities our vendor sources from tend to not have very much technology at all and live a very different life than we do. Most or all of the income they receive in the year comes from the sale of this kava. We connected with this specific middleman because they have 1. Cultivated relationships with people that provide the absolute best quality kava available in Vanuatu (not even kidding here). 2. They make it a point to pay the farmers a fair price for their kava. Undercutting people doing hard work for a great product is just not in their playbook and we want to be a part of that team. We hope you do too!
Directions:
Made as single serving: 32g in 20oz water. Blended for 4 min on medium high, strained well.
Made by the gallon: 100 to 130g. 1 gallon of room temperature water in a large bowl, bucket or a traditional tanoa bowl. Add water to the vessel. Add kava to a nut bag or cheese cloth and dip the bag into the water. Massage for about 15 to 20 minutes or until you've reached your desired potency. This will yield a much weaker kava for the purpose of sharing multiple cups with friends in longer sessions. Serve in coconut shells, glasses or store in a gallon jug chilled. Shake jug before serving.
Note: Add 20% of the gallon of water or 4oz in your single serving of 20oz as coconut milk for a tastier end result.
